One of the most surprising parts of working for yourself, is the amazing ability to CHOOSE whatever you want to do in your business: There's no one to answer to... but also no one to just tell you what the best path is! And that... while exhilarating, can also be terrifying.
And these days there are just SO many (awesome) options! You could use Instagram, or YouTube... you could have a podcast, or a course (or both)! With so many (great) options for teachers online, it can easily overwhelm a truly fantastic teacher who... just.... wants.... to... teach!
Maybe you left the institutions because you had a specific idea for your future (which is amazing because then you are 5 steps closer to your goal), or maybe you left because those institutions spend too much time focusing on the business side of teaching, and forget that there are real teachers and real students to help. I've been teaching English since 2008, in institutions (both public and private), and then also working for myself. I've built an online community of over 40,000 followers on Instagram, while also creating course after course. At first, selling those courses was my problem so I spent all my free time (which wasn't a-plenty) on learning how to sell online. Now we have a 5 month Business English Academy which we've sold to international companies as well as to followers, while also raising 2 young kids, during a global pandemic. *wipes sweat from brows
